The Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah State, in the northern part of Borneo Island. It is located 1,622 km (1,008 miles) east of Kuala Lumpur. It is the largest city in the state. It grew rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s.
