Day 2 – Malacca Arriving in Malaysia and visiting Malacca
- Land in Kuala Lumpur in the morning.
- We will meet you at the airport and take you to the city of Malacca.
- Spend a free afternoon getting to know this beautiful city and enjoying your first glimpse of Malaysia.

Malacca
has remained unchanged for centuries. You will marvel at its cultural diversity, the remnants of colonial times, and its famous gastronomy, which combines all the tastes of Malay cuisine.Until the 14th century, it was merely a fishing village. Developed by a Hindu prince, it became the crossroads of trade routes connecting the Indian Ocean to the China Sea.
It was inhabited, in turn, by Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and English colonists, and converted to Islam and then Christianity. Malacca is a blend of many cultures and has a rich architectural past, which is visible in its picturesque architecture. It is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia. - Lunch and dinner at your leisure.

Day 3 – Malacca / Kuala Lumpur A day in Malacca

- This morning, you will leave to spend the day visiting Malacca, including these must-see sites:
Chinatown
, which is a must-see district and the heart of Malacca, and is home to a large Chinese community. You can see beautiful facades as well as incredible temples, painted in bright colours. The neighbourhood hosts a night market on Friday and Saturday evenings.
- Not far from there, walk to
Cheng Hoon Teng Temple
, the oldest traditional Chinese temple in Malaysia, which was built in 1646.
- The
Stadthuys
, the town hall and office of the Governor, is the town’s landmark and the oldest Dutch monument in Asia, since it dates back to 1641. Nearby, the “Red Square” is named after the colour of its buildings. The entire neighbourhood dates from the Dutch colonial period and its architecture is reminiscent of Amsterdam. You will visit the church, which was built in 1753.
- The Porta de Santiago was a magnificent fortress built by the Portuguese in 1511.
- On the hill that houses the
colonial neighbourhood of Bukit Saint Paul
, visit St. Paul’s Church, from which you can enjoy a lovely view of Malacca. In the background: the sea, the famous Malacca Strait and a beautiful vista of the city.
- The Sultan’s Palace, which has been turned into a museum, is also well worth visiting.
- Bukit Cina is the largest Chinese graveyard outside of China and dates from the 17th century.
- Visit
Harmony Street
, the home of the beautiful temple of Chen Hoon Teng, which was built in 1946 with materials imported from China. Its ornate roofs bring together three main doctrines: Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. You will also see an Indian temple, Sri Poyyatha Vinayagar and Kapitan Kling Mosque.

Jonker Street
,which is famous for its 140 pre-war shops: hairdressers, acupuncture salons and souvenir shops, as well as stalls selling Chinese medicinal herbs.

- This morning, you will leave to spend the day visiting the city of

.In a country that is a melting pot of cultures, Kuala Lumpur is a warm, welcoming capital city where all the communities that make up the Malay people are present. Stroll through the different neighbourhoods of this city: the colonial centre, Merdeka Square, the bustling Chinatown, the peaceful Lake Gardens, the trendy neighbourhood of Bangsar Baru, etc. You will be amazed by the city’s bold architecture and how it has kept many havens of peace – beautiful green spaces that punctuate the city.
This visit will provide you with an overview of the entire city: between sophisticated modernism and charming colonial residences. - You will be able to see:

Petronas Towers
these twin towers – currently the tallest twin building in the world – are the landmark of Malaysia and its capital city. These two steel 88-floor towers house a luxury shopping centre. You can walk on the Skybridge, which connects them at 170 metres (558 feet) above the ground. It provides a breath-taking view!
- Get lost in
Chinatown
with its little streets, colourful shops, and aromas of mysterious spices and fruit. Don’t miss Jalan Petaling, Chinatown’s lively covered street, as well as Sri Mahamariamman, a large Hindu temple, and Sze Yah, a Taoist temple.
Merdeka Square
, where Malaysia’s independence was proclaimed on the 16th of September 1963. The square is surrounded by beautiful monuments and has a peaceful atmosphere.
- The wonderful Islamic Arts Museum and Masjid Negara, a beautiful mosque that was inspired by the layout of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Day 5 – Kuala Lumpur Batu Caves and Bird Park

- This morning, you will travel 13 km (8 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur to visit the famous
Batu limestone caves
.The Batu Caves, which you will reach after climbing 262 steps, house the largest Hindu temple outside of India. It is very much unexpected in an area that is quite hard to reach!
- After this, you will visit the Lake Gardens, created by the British, where you will find the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, the largest bird park in the world.
- In the evening, you will return to
Kuala Lumpur.
As this is your second day, we recommend you walk around on your own to discover more of this paradoxical city, which has some of the hustle and bustle of Asian capitals, but is actually quite peaceful thanks to the ever-present greenery.
- Don't miss:
- The
Kuala Lumpur Tower
, the TV tower, which is 421 metres high (1,387 feet) and is the highest viewpoint in Kuala Lumpur. An impressive visit, which will allow you to enjoy a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur.
Little India
, which will transport you to another realm, a shimmering world where the many little shops sell fabric, saris and all kinds of sparkling objects. An enjoyable stroll in a welcoming and picturesque atmosphere!
- Walk around
Kampung Baru,
a traditional neighbourhoodwhich has remained true to itself and still looks like a little village, with its traditional Malay wooden houses and beautiful gardens. Not far from there, don’t miss the lively Chow Kit Market.
- Those who enjoy shopping will find many giant shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur.

Day 6 – Kuala Lumpur / National Parks Taman Negara And there it is... Taman Negara!
- Breakfast.
- This morning, you will leave for the most famous park in the Malay peninsula. Described as the country’s “lung”,
Taman Negara
is a beautiful, impenetrable jungle that dates back 130 million years.Orchids, rafflesia (the biggest flower in the world), phosphorescent mushrooms, age-old trees, carnivorous plants, etc. The paths that criss-cross this amazing rainforest will lead you to the heart of its surprising flora.
In this wildlife preserve, you may encounter tigers, buffaloes and elephants hiding behind the lush vegetation. - The Orang Asli, the
“original people"
in Malay, are hunter-gatherers who live in the jungle.The tribes are nomadic and no one knows where they will be next. You will most likely come across one of their abandoned camp-sites as you walk through the jungle.
- You will arrive in Kuala Tembeling, the gateway to the park, around noon. This is where you will register and board a log-canoe, which will take you on a two-hour trip to Kuala Tahan, where you will spend the night.
- In the evening, after dinner, take a one-hour
night tour of the jungle
.The sounds and atmosphere are completely different from what you may have heard during the day! A fascinating experience, immersed in nature!

Day 7 – National Parks Taman Negara In Taman Negara Jungle
- Breakfast.
- There are many things to see in Taman Negara Park. You can study the fauna and flora from look-out posts that allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the forest.
- In the morning, you will take a short
hike to Teresek Hill.
You can try out the Canopy Walkway: the longest suspended bridge in the world: 500 meters (1,640 feet) long and 40 metres (about 130 feet) above ground, it crosses the canopy and provides a bird’s-eye view of the plant life.
- After breakfast, you will board a log-canoe and travel up Tahan River, which flows from the top of Mount Gunung Tahan, the tallest mountain in the Malay peninsula.
- You will visit
Tenor Fish Sanctuary
where you can help a good cause and “adopt” a river fish. This programme was implemented to heighten public awareness about the conservation of Taman Negara’s rare, fragile ecosystem. You can feed the fish and swim with them.
- After this, you will continue walking through the jungle until you reach a natural pool with clear water in which you can swim.
- In the evening, after dinner, you can watch a film about all the different species that co-exist in Taman Negara.
- Lunch and dinner included.

Day 8 – National Parks Taman Negara / Kuala Selangor From Taman Negara to Kuala Selangor
- Breakfast.
- This morning, you will leave Taman Negara Park. You will take a log-canoe back to Kuala Tembeling.
- From there, you will continue onto
Kuala Selangor
, and arrive there in the afternoon.This former royal capital is a quiet, welcoming town built on the banks of the Selangor River. However, the treasure of Kuala Selangor is its swarm of fireflies, which is visible every night.
- You can watch the fireflies from a boat, as you ride up the river to the Show Trees. When the dark of night hides all but the noises of the neighbouring jungle, the swarms of fireflies suddenly light up the banks of the river. A magical evening.
- In Kuala Selangor Park, you will also have the opportunity to see many monkeys.

Day 9 – Kuala Selangor / The Cameron Highlands Off to the Cameron Highlands
- After a delicious breakfast, you will leave Kuala Selangor for the Cameron Highlands.
- You will leave your hotel at 9 a.m. and travel along the wild, green roads of Malaysia. On the way, you will stop off at a workshop where they make baskets.You will also take a walk to the lovely Lata Iskandar Waterfalls and visit a typical local village.
- Nestled at 1,600 metres (5,200 feet) above sea level,
the Cameron Highlands
are a breath of fresh air, a welcome break from the humid, suffocating heat of Malaysia.This region is a natural blessing, a haven of peace with amazing scenery. Between the thick jungle, the mountains, the waterfalls and the tea plantations, there are many hiking trips to be done.
- In the afternoon, depending on when you arrive, you will have the opportunity to visit Sam Poh Temple, a singular place dedicated to a 15th century Chinese admiral. This classical, colourful Buddhist temple also boasts a beautiful view of the area.

Day 10 – The Cameron Highlands In the heart of the Cameron Highlands
- After breakfast, you will leave to visit the region of the Cameron Highlands, which used to be a holiday location for the British in colonial times.
- Today, you will discover the art of
cultivating tea
by visiting a tea plantation like Sungai Palas.You will learn everything about this intriguing plant and, if you want, you can even taste this fascinating product.
- During this trip, you will discover the rose gardens and Cactus Valley, and visit a butterfly farm. Your steps will lead you to the local villages of the Semai.
- In the afternoon, you will leave for a short hike through the forest to a little waterfall. On the way back, you will stop off at local markets where you can discover the delicious assortment of fruit and vegetables the region has to offer.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.

Day 11 – The Cameron Highlands / Belum Forest Between the Cameron Highlands and Belum Forest

- This morning, leave for the old-growth forest of Belum.
- On the way, you will stop off twice to visit two charming sites:
Sam Poh Tong Temple
near IpohSam Poh Tong is an impressive limestone cave in which a Chinese monk built a Buddhist temple.
andKuala Kangsar.
Kuala Kangsar is a former royal capital city. This provincial town still houses many wonderful buildings, including a splendid mosque, Ubudiah, and beautiful palaces: the palace of the Sultan and the Perak Royal Museum.
- You will reach Belum in the afternoon.
- Spend the evening at your discretion and enjoy your hotel and its beautiful surroundings.
- Lunch and dinner included.
- Spend the night in the Belum Rainforest Resort Hotel in Belum (or similar).
Day 12 – Belum Forest The jungle and Belum's Orang Asli
- Breakfast.
- Early in the morning, leave to spend the whole day in the
humid jungle of Belum.
Located on the border with Thailand, this beautiful old-growth forest is one of the oldest in the world, as it pre-dates the Amazonian rainforest and the jungles of Congo. This region, which receives a lot less visitors than Taman Negara, is an ideal setting for hikes in the heart of the jungle. You will have the opportunity to observe many animals and birds.
- You will take a one-hour cruise in a small boat on Temenggor Lake: the second largest lake in the Malay peninsula.
- On Banding Island, you can meet the local people, who are native to Malaysia: the Orang Asli.You will visit their villages and get to know the members of the Jahai and Temiar tribes.
- If you are lucky, you will come across
rafflesia
, the largest flower on the world, which is native to Malaysia, during the hike.This natural wonder only flowers for 7 days before wilting.
- This amazing trip will take you into the farthest reaches of the jungle, where you can see beautiful waterfalls.
- In the afternoon, you will go back to your hotel.
- If you get back early enough, you can spend some time fishing: the surrounding waters are full of Toman.
- Otherwise, relax and take the time to enjoy the natural setting: you are in the heart of one of the oldest lungs of the planet, a lush old-growth forest, full of life.

Day 13 – Belum Forest / Penang/Georgetown From Belum to Penang

, which has a very different atmosphere.Also known as the “Pearl of the East”, Penang Island is a mythical place. Indeed, Penang used to be an English port, on the tea and opium routes. This lovely jewel has a unique charm that welcomes those who are ready to experience its delights. Georgetown, the capital city, has many remnants of colonial times, and you won’t fail to be impressed by its cultural diversity, as different cultures live together in harmony.
- The hustle and bustle of the narrow streets, the subdued light of the paper lanterns and the spicy aroma of chili and curry mixed with the scent of incense will delight you. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Georgetown, the capital city of Penang, is a must-see destination that combines past and present Asia.

Day 14 – Penang/Georgetown Discovering Penang

- Today you will discover the beauties of Penang. You will be able to see and visit:
- The traditional Chinese houses, the most famous of which is Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, built in 1880 and nicknamed “the Blue House”.
Khoo Kongsi
Kongsis are rallying points for members of the same Chinese clan, serving at the same time as temples and schools. This beautiful building, which burned down during its inauguration in 1901, was richly and luxuriously restored.

Kuan Yin Teng Temple
is the oldest Buddhist temple in Penang. It was built around 1800 and is still a beautiful, lively site.

Sri Mariamman Temple
is a colourful Hindu temple that is covered with sculptures and other decorations.
- Wat Chayamang Kalaran Temple houses a 33 metre (108 feet) long Reclining Buddha.
- The
Clan Piers
make up a singular neighbourhood, comprised of wooden houses built on stilts. Don’t hesitate to stroll down these wooden pontoons to breathe in the atmosphere of these districts that are built over the sea.
- Penang Museum, which presents the history of Penang and highlights the multi-ethnic character of the Malay people.
- The
famous Fort Cornwallis
was built in the spot where Francis Light landed in 1786. Not far from there, check out the Clock Tower, which was built for Queen Victoria’s 60th birthday.
- A factory that manufactures Batiks, the famous printed fabric that is very popular in Europe.
- Add to your visit of the island by riding in a rickshaw that will take you through the maze of streets in Georgetown.

Day 15 – Penang/Georgetown The treasures of Penang

- Today, you can take your time to discover the hidden treasures of this legendary island.
- In addition to Georgetown, Penang has other must-see visits in store for you:
- Take the cable-car to the top of Penang Hill, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the island. Walk down through the jungle amongst beautiful unspoiled natural surroundings.
- Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. A beautiful tour will take you around its many buildings.
- Don’t miss the largest butterfly sanctuary in the world, Butterfly Farm, which houses 4,000 butterflies from 120 different species.
- Penang also has many beaches to offer, especially on the coast north of Georgetown. You can choose to relax there in the afternoon.

Day 16 – Penang/Georgetown / Langkawi The Langkawi Islands
- After breakfast, you will take the early-morning ferry to Langkawi.
- After a two-hour boat trip, you will arrive on the main island of
Langkawi.
The archipelago of Langkawi is comprised of 99 islands, only three of which are inhabited. This idyllic stop-off is enjoyable, as its white sand beaches are beautifully lined with palm trees, and the sea is a lovely turquoise!
The Langkawi Islands are entirely covered with thick vegetation, which is why they used to be the lair of the Malacca Strait pirates. The natural paradise of the main island with provide you with the opportunity to take many hikes through the jungle and discover beautiful waterfalls, like the Telaga Tujuh. If you look up, you will often notice curious monkeys staring at you in the hope that you will share some of your food with them! - You will take a tour of the main island during the day. You will take the impressive cable car, which goes above the jungle and will take you to a platform at the very top, providing you with a beautiful view of the whole island.

Day 17 – Langkawi Last day in Malaysia
- Breakfast.
- You can spend the day at your discretion, depending on when your flight leaves, and enjoy Langkawi Island.
- Langkawi has many trips in store for fishing and diving aficionados.
- Finally, don’t forget to take a boat trip to the neighbouring islands, especially Pulau Dayang Bunting, where you will find a lovely freshwater lake in which you can swim.
- In the evening, take a plane to Kuala Lumpur to catch your flight to London.

During this itinerary, you will spend several nights in the jungle, in a longhouse, the traditional houses of the inhabitants of Borneo. The accommodation may be basic, but it is very authentic. You don’t need a visa to go to Malaysia or Singapore.
Vaccinations and Health
No vaccinations are required for travellers coming from Europe. However, it is recommended you make sure the following vaccinations are up-to-date: tetanus, polio, diphtheria, hepatitis B. You do not need preventative treatment against malaria.
Health: Never drink tap water, as it is not safe to drink. Also avoid ice cubes, which are made with tap water. Always buy mineral water.Meeting People
During this trip, you will meet the Iban and other tribes of Borneo and share their lives, in their longhouses. Please be respectful and ask for their permission before taking pictures of them. We encourage you to taste the products they offer you, as this will create a positive atmosphere for your stay. In any case, please try to be as polite as possible towards your hosts, even if your cultures are very different!
Hiking and Sporting Activities
Borneo is home to a lush, virgin flora. During this itinerary, you will spend time in the jungle. Please remember to dress appropriately and bring the necessary equipment. Always make sure you have snacks on you, as you will occasionally be far from everything and will not have the opportunity to buy food. Also remember to bring a bottle of water with you, as the heat can be overpowering.
Finally, you will have many opportunities to swim: don’t forget to bring your swimsuit and a towel!
